Often, I watch
movies when I'm bored. Most of the time, I enjoy action, comedy, and sports
related movies since they often have a lot of special effects and innovative
approaches to them. That's why, in this section, you'll find my opinion
of what I believe the best scenes of each movie genre is.
Action
The Untouchables
- Baby Carriage Shootout
This
is one of my favorite action scenes ever. Kevin Kostner is looking for
the book keeper of Al Capone so he can interrogate him on charges of Income
Tax Evasion. When they find the book keeper, several of Capone's badasses
are along with him. Kostner opens fires on the first guy while he's dragging
a woman's carriage up the stairs. The problem is that he lets go of the
carriage and during the entire shootout, the baby carriage is rolling
down the stairs. Everything is in slow-motion which gives it an excellent
dramatic effect, and it ends with Andy Garcia shooting one of the bad
guys in the head.
The Matrix
- Lobby Entrance
If
you've never seen this scene, then you're probably not a fan of action
movies. Even though the Matrix is one of the greatest special effects
movies ever, this has to be one of the best action scenes ever. During
this scene, Neo and Trinity enter the lobby of where their leader is being
held captive. A dozen or so SWAT guys enter the room and they all open
fire. Plenty of different weapons, including shotties, automatics, and
pistols are being fired. All of this is going on while awesome slow motion
special effects, the matrix style jumps/kicks, and plenty of blood exchange
parties. Best of all is that the scene ends to show the entire cement
lobby room falling apart from all the misguided gunfire.
Lone Wolf
McQuade - Norris Vs. Carradine
Even
though this movie wasn't too great, Lone Wolf McQuade had a decent rivalry
that built up during the entire movie. Even though it had corny no-blood
effects, and fake deaths from explosions, Lone Wolf McQuade had two things
that made it great. One, the theme song is an underrated classic, and
two, the final battle between Chuck Norris and David Carradine is a classic.
Kung Fu vs. Karate in my mind, a rivalry that is settled in an excellent
five minute scene. To start off, Chuck Norris rescues his love and daughter,
but then decides to fight his nemesis, David Carradine, in a hand-to-hand
combat battle. The fight starts off with Carradine doing all these fancy
moves including many reversals. Eventually, when he gets knocked down
by Norris, he throws dirt in his face (hehe the cheap bastard). Then he
starts kicking ass, and Norris's daughter tries to stop Carradine. Carradine
smacks her and this enrages the hidden tiger within Norris. Finally, Norris
kicks his ass, his wife gets shot, he picks up a grenade and kills Carradine.
So it's not exactly what you expected, but the classic rivalry was in
my opinion.
Black
Hawk Down - Surrounded and Ambushed
Possibly
ones of the bloodiest war movies ever, Black Hawk Down was an instant
hit. One of the best scenes in the movie was when their chopper formation
got ambushed by RPGs while they were landing in Somalia. Two of their
choppers went down with many soldiers on the ground. Somalians rushed
everywhere firing AKs and the men were forced to retaliate with very little
ammo and support. Best of all was the endless amount of gore, the scene
actually seemed very reminiscent of what actually happened in Somalia
and there was plenty of cursing to go along with it. The entire movie
was basically an action scene.
Braveheart
- Long Spears Battle
Another
historical movie about the Scottish, Braveheart sported plenty of violence,
humor, and historical importance to go along with it. One of the best
scenes I can remember was the one that involved long huge spears. The
scene began off with a dramatic charge from the English with their heavy
calvary and the Scottish just standing their doing nothing. The Scottish
had their horsemen make it look like they were retreating when in reality
they were flanking the archers. Meanwhile, the calvary marched right into
the Scottish long spears, and then the Scottish charged the English. A
very epic battle with plenty of blood, medieval slayings, and an excellent
victory for the Scottish if I might add. Not to mention the intensity
in the eyes of William Wallace.
