NES is a classic...

Cleaning/Repairing Your NES
This section of the site will tell you how to maintain and keep your NES in good working order. I will update this section in a few weeks with my own methods, but for now, I'll provide some good links with descriptions on how to do it yourself.

Note: I am not responsible in anyway as to what happens to your NES if you attempt any of these methods. By using these methods, you are using them at your own risk.

Q-Tip & Rubbing Alcohol Method:
This is my favorite method of cleaning NES games. It works about 99% of the time and the game will work flawlessly. All you need is a box of Q-Tips, a bottle of 70% isopropyl rubbing alcohol and a down-and-dirty cartridge.

Grab a Q-Tip and dip one end of it into the bottle of rubbing alcohol.

Take the dipped end and rub it back and forth across the cartridge connectors on both sides.

Now, take the dry end of the Q-Tip and rub that back and forth across the connectors.

This should make the connectors dry. You will also notice dirt on the Q-Tip ends.

You can try the game and it should work. If it doesn't, repeat the process until there is no dirt on the Q-Tips after rubbing.

The only time my games work is when I hold them down. Is there anyway I can play my NES with two hands?
Yes. One of the simple things you can do involves the use of another NES cartridge. Take the cart you want to play and push it in. Now hold it all the way down and stick another NES cart on top of it. This will hold the game down and allow you to play.
