River City Ransom
Double Dragon III

Panic in River City!

"To the citizens of River City: I hold your high school captive! With my gangs of students and vicious bosses roaming the streets, nobody can stop me now. Meet my demands - or else!"

Slick, the meanest, most powerful gang lord in River City, has issued this ultimatum - and the entire town is powerless in a grip of fear!

Fortunately, Alex and Ryan weren't in school the day Slick took it over. But now, their fellow students are prisoners - including Ryan's girlfriend! It's up to our two young heroes to battle their way past several dangerous city gangs, then defeat the gang lord to free the students of River City High and restore peace to the panic-stricken populace!

So basically, your girlfriend is kidnapped and your high school is taken over by an evil enemy, Slick. This sounds familiar...

<---Storyline--->

Your famous Double Dragon dojo is doing well. Your students are learning the ways of the ancient masters and building their strengths. Brett, one of your top students tries to tell you what happened. But he is cut down before he has a chance... But then it happens. Suddenly, Marion has disappeared again. And you know that it can't be the Black Shadow Warriors... so who is behind it this time?

You meet Hiruko, a soothsayer and a friend. She explains that the only way to get Marion back is to produce, as ransom, the three Sacred Stones. Hiruko promises to lead you to them, but they are scattered from one end of the world to the other. And each is heavily guarded. As you travel the globe, you'll fend off Ninpou masters, Ninja warriors, and hordes of others. You'll use your incredible cyclone spin kick and your newest achievement, the "mid-air somer-assault." Follow Hiruko to Marion. And discover the truth behind the Sacred Stones.

Hmm...your girlfriend is missing and you don't know who did it. But some mysterious old woman tells you that you must find the three sacred stones. So both games have the same point - save the girl...

1) Fight and bash your way through the enemies...

2) Use weapons and various items to pound your enemy...

3) Jump by pressing A+B together.

4) Do awesome and technical moves only seen in the movies.

Trust me, this guy kicks a lot of ass.

<---Gameplay--->

1) Beat the baddies up and kick their rudy pudy candy...

2) Knives, Bats, Dynamite, Nunchuks, it's all here...

3) Leap across chasms by pressing A+B simulataneously.

4) Using your karate knowledge, you can perform flying hurricane kicks and chops with ease.

I wouldn't be standing around when he does this.
River City Ransom tends to be more of a comical, freelancing fighting game where you use RPG elements to build your strength. Not only can you increase your power by building your stats, but by eating foods and buying items can also help. This is what DD3 lacks, any depth besides the fighting.
<---Differences--->
Double Dragon III tends to be a more serious game that lacks the comedy or RPG elements found in RCR. Even though DD3 has more moves, it also is more of a linear fighting game rather than a constant exploring, fighting game.
