NES is a classic...

#15
Zelda 2: The Adventure of Link

Even though I believe Nintendo tried to do more than they should've, Zelda II is still a great game. It held an innovative battle system where the experience could be used to upgrade certain stats. Technically, this was the first Zelda game to have a RPG battle system included.

Metroid

Metroid is another great classic produced by Nintendo. You play the role of Samus, who is a girl that fights this giant alien called Metroid. The gameplay itself is similar to Megaman, but more detailed. You can roll, set mines, and do other functions. While people may draw similarities between Metroid and Mega Man, Metroid is more non-linear based.

#13
River City Ransom

RCR is a great beat-em-up game where you take the role of two guys and try to rescure your girlfriend. While its story may seem a bit spoofy of Double Dragon, the gameplay is just great. RCR incorporates RPG features by being able to raise stats by eating food. The food costs money which you get from gangsters, which makes the game a real fun treat to play. Plus, it has a two-player cooperative mode which is why this is a must-have for the NES.

#12
Contra

This is by far the best shooting series ever for a video game system. Contra features great graphics, gameplay, sound, and tons of enemies to blow up. There are plenty of powerups for each weapon, different level designs, and even a level that looks like a behind the player view. You should have this game if you want some high-paced action.

#11
Maniac Mansion

This is one of those games that can be funny or boring. Personally, I find it to be an interesting game. Maniac Mansion puts you in the role of three kids (you pick from several) who check out this mansion. There are multiple endings, complex puzzles, and the game has a lot of depth. It was eventually recalled to be retooled and fixed up, but the exploding hamster was something you don't see everday...
